Novel among the series of allocations for various MMRDA projects, the MMRDA has proposed to set up Asia’s largest ‘Innovation Park’ within the MMR. The park will be largest in the field of Research and Development. The MMRDA is expecting the park to attract about 25,000 scientists from over 100 countries. “It has been observed that several premium R&D laboratories have been looking for space to set up campuses in Maharashtra,” said an MMRDA official. For 2009-10, Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the Park.
The Authority has also decided to venture into power generation in collaboration with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). For that, according to Dilip Kawathkar, MMRDA spokesperson, Rs 10 crore has been allotted this fiscal.
The MMR has shown tremendous development in the industrial sector. “Consequently, the influx of people has been witnessed. This resulted in growing demand for electricity. It is proposed to explore power solutions in association with CIDCO,” said Kawathkar.
Meanwhile, the other premier projects include Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (Rs 830 crore), Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (Rs 300 crore), Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link Dispersal system (Rs 500 crore), Monorail Project (Rs 935 crore), Skywalk and SATIS (Rs 600 crore), Metro Rail (Rs 550 crore), Mumbai Urban Transport Project (Rs 729 crore), Nirmal Abhiyan (Rs 184 crore), Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and Iconic Tower (Rs 4 crore), Regional Landfill Site (Rs 30 crore), MMR Water Resource Development (Rs 10 crore), Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd. (Rs 50 crore), Bandra-Kurla Complex (Rs150 crore) and Mithi River Development Project (Rs100 crore), bridges under MUIP (Rs 170 crore), MTHL (Rs 500 Crore), Construction of Wadala Truck Terminal (Rs 50 crore), Housing Stock with offsite infrastructure MMR (Rs100 Crore), Rehabilisation & Resettlement (Rs 35 crore), training programme for local bodies (Rs 9 crore), Basic Slum Upgradation Programme (Rs120 crore) acquisition of land for projects, land bank and development centre (Rs 100 crore).
