Lucknow Robbers looted Rs 66 lakh after shooting at an employee of a private security firm in Kotwali area of Gorakhpur on Saturday. SP City Ramesh said the incident took place around 12.20 pm when four employees of CMS Securitrans came to collect cash on behalf of the Axis Bank from the Cinema Road branch of LIC.

Security guard Arvind Patel and custodian Subhash Singh, carrying one bag each, were walking towards their van when four youths appeared on the scene, Ramesh said. Brandishing pistols, they snatched the gun of the guard and tried to snatch the bags. When they resisted, one of them hit Patel in the head with the pistol butt, while another fired at Singh. Driver Mahendra Singh and another employee Ajay Pratap Singh were in the van and failed to come out to help. The assailants ran away with the cash on motorcycles. Gorakhpur Range IG Ram Deo said, “It was sheer carelessness on the part of the bank and the security agency to have sent just one guard to collect huge cash.”
