Vadodara, February 7 In the wake of the Patan gangrape, noted activist Rohit Prajapati has sought information from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act on the status of the Supreme Court’s 1997 directive on sexual harassment committees in work places and institutions in the state.

Submitting an application to the CMO's information officer, Prajapati has sought the information, within 48 hours, on whether such committees exist in the state's government offices and educational institutes and if they do, how are they function.

Prajapati has asked information on eight accounts seeking details of cabinet meetings, notings on the issue and the status of such committees in all the departments including the literature needed to implement them.

Citing the case of M S University, where only the Faculty of Fine Arts has a sexual harassment committee as per the apex court's directive, Prajapati sought the copy of the Vishakha guidelines of 1997 which called for a formulation of such a committee.

He also demanded a copy of the instructions that women should dominate these committees so that victims can easily take up the matter with them. He has also asked for the phone numbers, contact addresses and other details of the members of the committees, whether they exist and if at all they do, who oversees their functioning in the state government, and public and private sector enterprises.

He has also sought details of any action being taken by state if no such committee has been formed as per the Supreme Court directive.
