Lucknow A court today allowed the Class X student who had allegedly shot at his teacher to appear in the Board examinations beginning Wednesday even as the police sought the boy’s remand for questioning.

The boy, who had run away after the incident last week, was later caught travelling without ticket in a train, but faked his identity before the railway police. Since he did not pay the fine, he was sent to jail.

The revolver the boy allegedly used belonged to his father, who is a union leader in the Railways. The police are yet to find the weapon.

On Tuesday, the police filed an application before the railway magistrate, giving details of the shooting incident on February 28, and seeking permission to record his statement in jail.

Defence lawyer Atul Verma said: “The police recorded the boy’s statement at the jail regarding the incident and later filed an application before court, requesting for an order for the accused to be summoned in the case of attempt to murder.”

Verma said he had already procured the railway court’s permission for the boy to take his board exams. The manager of Red Rose Secondary School, Prashant Mishra, said the boy’s mother collected his admit card on Monday.

SP (East) Harish Kumar said the boy’s father would be booked for negligence in the safekeeping of his licensed weapon.

The 16-year-old had fired at his teacher Akhilesh Mishra after he allegedly scolded him for coming to school without uniform. The boy had gone to the school to collect his admit card for the board exams, which was being withheld by the school on grounds of inadequate attendance.

The injured teacher is undergoing treatment at the CSMMU.
