Mumbai The state Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday police got an extension of custody, till March 13, of alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Saadiq Sheikh, to investigate his alleged role in the July 2006 serial train blasts case.

The ATS had sought an extension on the grounds that its investigations were incomplete and further leads were possible from Saadiq’s interrogation.

The Mumbai police crime branch had earlier taken Sheikh into custody. He was suspected to be an IM founder-member who planned and executed serial blasts across the country. The crime branch chargesheet named him one of those responsible for serial blasts across the country. Since then, the ATS had wanted him in its custody.
