Surat Says the government machinery has been ineffective in preventing spread of epidemic in Sabarkantha

Congress MP Sachin Pilot has criticised the Gujarat government for its failure to take effective measures at a time when jobless diamond workers in the state are committing suicide and people are dying in Sabarkantha district due to the outbreak of Hepatitis B .

The state government has failed to provide any help to the diamond workers who have lost their jobs as well as for the people of Sabarkantha district who are tormented by the outbreak of Hepatitis B in the region, said Pilot during his visit to Surat on Wednesday afternoon.

Pilot, an MP from Dausan constituency, is in Gujarat to campaign for Youth Congress membership. He met Youth Congress members in Surat and advised them to work sincerely for the party. Later, he addressed the media at the circuit house before leaving for Bardoli taluka in Surat district.

Pilot said the youth in Gujarat have shown an overwhelming response to the party’s membership drive and that they are keen to work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. “Rahulji is senapati and we are his sainiks,” he said.

He said Rahul has visualised a new way of selecting youths in the party. “We are also getting a good response from rural and tribal areas of the state,” he said.

Pilot further said the power of Youth Congress leaders has been witnessed in Punjab and Uttarakhand and Rahul seeks similar change in Gujarat, too.

He said the young people themselves will enroll their names as members of the Youth Congress and will select their leaders. Rahul has promised that youth members of the party will participate in the upcoming election and their percentage will be one third of the total candidates, he said.

Pilot also criticised Narendra Modi for his comments over Rahul Gandhi’s Gujarat visits.

He said, “The Central government has never kept any bias against Gujarat. In fact, the government has given thousands of crores of rupees for the state’s development projects.”

Modi has used the money given by the Central government and taken credit for himself, he said.
