Pune Vishrambaug police on Tuesday arrested three more persons in connection with the murder of Baliram Dnyandeo Gaikwad (32). Gaikwad was hacked to death on Saturday afternoon near Bhave School in Sadashiv Peth.

The arrest of Sunil Kondhalkar, Dhananjay Chagan and Dilip Thombre follows the arrest of five accused, including Nikhil Sanjay Khomne (20) of Kothrud and Pankaj Gulab Bhandari (19) of Sinhagad Road earlier.

Police inspector Chandrakant Jadhav said that after getting a tip-off that the two suspects would arrive at Swargate State Transport bus stand on Monday, he deputed some policemen there. They spotted the suspects around 4.30 pm and nabbed them.

During investigations, Kondhalkar and Chagan confessed to having a hand in the murder, the police said. They also told the police about another accomplice who was involved. Following this, Santosh Dilip Thombare, a resident of Navi Peth was arrested near Alka Talkies chowk.

The police have recovered three motorbikes, two blood-stained weapons and five mobile handsets from the arrested persons. Police said they also recovered blood-stained clothes from the suspects.

Jadhav said Kondhalkar and Chagan had earlier attacked Baliram on September 19. Baliram had lodged a complaint with Vishrambaug police then, based on which Kondhalkar and his associates had been arrested.

Enraged over the complaint, Kondhalkar planned to take revenge as soon as he got out on bail. Kondhalkar, along with his associates planned the killing of Baliram at Om Driving School owned by him at Karve Road.

Police said on Saturday, around 1.30 pm, when Baliram and his friend Nitin Paigude were passing through Sadashiv Peth, one of the suspects threw chilli powder in Baliram’s eyes and hacked him to death.
