The new statement is a contrast to his earlier version — that he had helped two low-ranking LeT terrorists get across the Indo-Bangla border, Siddh Nath Gupta, Deputy Inspector General, CID (Operations) told The Indian Express. On Friday, he told the CID interrogators that he had helped Dar cross the border last April and facilitated his journey to New Delhi. Dar, incidentally, was arrested in J&K’s Bandipora on January 14.

Dar had broken away from Hizbul to form the Muslim Mujahideen in 1992. But he still was a close associate of the current Hizbul commander Syed Salahuddin, DIG (North Kashmir) Abdul Gani Mir had told reporters in Baramulla following Dar’s arrest. Currently, he was coordinating the activities of LeT, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in the Valley. Sources in the CID said while bringing Dar in from Dhaka, Safiqul had used the route across the International Border at Murshidabad’s Lalgola. Dar had reached the Bangla capital from Pakistan and Safiqul was assigned to help him cross the border by his handlers and take him to Delhi.

But earlier, Safiqul had said that he used the Lalgola route to get LeT terrorists Sikander and Iqbal into the country in 2007.
