Sagarika rolls over third seed in Grasscourt tennis

Kolkata Sagarika Phadke of Maharashtra created a stir by ousting the third seed and defending champion Asha Nandakumar of Karnataka in 6-4, 6-4 in the Central Excise AITA Open Grasscourt Tennis Championship 2009 being played at the Central Excise Athletic Club and Dalhousie Athletic Club here.

Tamil Nadu’s Shahin Ansari toppled the seventh seeded Anushree Thammanna of Karnataka 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Locals top seed Shivika Burman, second seed Treta Bhattacharyya and Shruti Dhawan Sharma qualified for the quarter-finals. Shivika defeated D Harshini Reddy of Karnataka 6-0, 6-1, Treta beat Karnataka’s Mysore Sreekantiah Shivani 6-2, 6-0 and Shruti blanked Tabasum Oomer of Tamil Nadu 6-0, 6-0.
