Citing the 1992 Supreme Court judgment given in the Vishaka Case that took place in Rajasthan, the delegates, who had previously conducted a signature campaign among the students and teachers in the university, submitted a letter signed by 1525 people.
According to the memorandum, the committee should be formed with the objectives, which sensitises and generates awareness against sexual harassments, including crisis management and mediation followed by formal redressal and enquiry.
The letter also cited the apex court judgment to ensure that the committee is chaired by a woman consisting of at least fifty per cent woman members. It should also involve a third party member such as a non-governmental organisation working on the issue of sexual harassment.
The delegates also demanded that sexual harassment should be made into a punishable offence in the University Rule Book, applicable to all employees and students.
