Lucknow The Lucknow Police raided the Lakshmanpuri Colony home of don-turned-parliamentarian Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Wednesday for allegedly grabbing his colony’s park and tubewell, issuing death threats to the locals.

An FIR was lodged against him at the Ghazipur police station. The parliamentarian himself was absconding, but his aides — Ravindra Pratap Singh, Shiv Kumar and Pradip Kumar Singh — were arrested from his house. The police also restored the park and the tubewell to the locals.

Singh, who was elected from Balrampur, had switched loyalty from BJP to Samajwadi Party ahead of the trust vote in the parliament. He has been given an SP ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Kaiserganj.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Lucknow, Akhil Kumar, said Udai Pratap Singh, secretary to Lakshmanpuri Jan Kalyan Samiti, had lodged the complaint, alleging that the parliamentarian had grabbed the park and tubewell on October 30, 2008. The residents had developed the park and had set up the tubewell on their own.

He had also sent the same complaint to the Speaker, Lok Sabha and the UP chief minister, seeking action against the MP and restoring the previous status, Akhil Kumar said.

The SSP said Udai Pratap had alleged that the MP, along with the policemen assigned for his security and his private armed guards, had barged into the park and snatched the keys of the tubewell from the operator. He and his guards had issued death threats to the operator and the residents, asking them to stay away from the park and the tubewell, he had alleged.

“The park and the tubewell were set up 10 years ago, while the MP grabbed them claiming that the land belongs to him and the residents had occupied them illegally,” said Akhil Kumar.

“But, Brij Bhushan had never initiated any effort to claim possession earlier.”

The case was registered under Sections 392 (robbery), 447 (criminal trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC. “The MP is still wanted in the case,” the SSP said.
