Chandigarh, December 31 Unpredictability happens to be the only predictability in drag-flick expert Sandeep Singh's case. In an earlier encounter against Sher-e-Jalandhar in the Premier Hockey League, the player from Shahbad missed seven penalty corners, but it was altogether a different story on Monday as Singh scored a hat-trick to guide his team Chandigarh Dynamos to a thrilling 4-3 win over Chennai Veerans. In a match played at Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, Dynamos displayed a power packed performance after trailing 3-2 to win the match through a silver goal by Ravipal Singh in extra-time.

Playing in front of home crowd, Dyanamos displayed a superb comeback after Veerans rushed to a 2-1 lead after the first two quarters. A commendable amalgam of speed, skill and system by the Veerans' forward line laid the Dynamos defence low, almost through out the first two quarters. The opening goal that Adam Sinclair struck for Veerans after a fine dribble by Mahendra Singh in the 25-yard circle was a stunner, whose velocity; angle and trajectory flummoxed Swinder Singh of Dynamos. But it was the brilliance of Sandeep Singh, who converted the first penalty corner for Dynamos with a well disguised low drag flick, which saw the Dynamos equalising in the second quarter. With Senthil Kumar and Raja working hard in the mid-field, Veerans frontline showed semblance of cohesion before the Veerans took a time-out in the later part of the second quarter. Not long after the resumption, Adam Sinclair scored his second goal with a smart move that left goal-keeper Swinder Singh stranded in the 34th minute. Minus the indefatigable S S Gill, the rest of Dynamos defence did not show itself as sharp but with luck on their side, they managed to thwart some fine moves by Veerans. Sandeep Singh fired his second goal for Dynamos in the 44th minute through another penalty corner to bring Dynamos at par with Veerans before Veerans drag-flick expert Raghunath put them ahead again through a sublime drag-flick in the 51st minute. With a performance that projected his proficiency level to a new high, Sandeep Singh came again with a sparkling drag-flick to score the equaliser for Dynamos in the 60th minute before the match entered into extra-time.

Encouraged by the turn of events and profiting from the tiring Veerans attack which lost the momentum as seen in the first two quarters, Dynamos held advantage for most of the time. When Ravipal produced a stunner of deflection from a rebound by Veerans goalkeeper Sreejesh with four minutes to the hooter, it signalled the win for Dynamos who finished with 14 points in six matches.
