Hakan Kingstedt, managing director & president, Sandvik Asia, said that the establishment of the hub was a significant step for Sandvik. "The Sandvik Group will be looking at establishing India as a global hub for knowledge sourcing with this project in India," he said.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Olle Wijk, executive vice president SMT and head of R&D said that Sandvik wanted to establish the R&D centre in India because it gave the company the opportunity for close cooperation with customers in the Asian market.
Sandvik Group has been consistently investing nearly 4% of its earnings annually in R&D over the years. Peter Gossas, president, Sandvik Materials Technology said that India ranked high in research capabilities both from competence and cost point of view. "So the new centre in Pune will showcase the local representation of modeling experts in Asia, where the market is up surging with a rapid pace."
