Lucknow “Arre yeh toh apna Munnabhai hai”, “Oh Sanju! he’s so cool”, “WOW! I can’t wait to give him a jaadu ki jhappi” — Sanju Baba’s debut into politics and his maiden roadshow certainly had the state capital going gaga over him.

Dutt, announced the Samajwadi Party’s candidate from Lucknow, did not just receive a warm welcome but also managed to draw the urban crowd, which otherwise prefers to keep away from the Samajwadi Party.

Accompanied by wife Manyata and Bhojpuri singer and actor Manoj Tewari, who is also making his political debut as SP’s Gorakhpur candidate, Dutt moved around the city as a part of his roadshow.

“Mujhe bas aapka pyar aur jadoo ki jhappi chahiye,” he shouted to the crowds, referring to his signature line from the blockbuster Munnabhai MBBS.

At Hazratganj, even shopkeepers came out to have a glimpse of the popular actor. Girls jostled to capture that perfect shot on their cellphone cameras. Two young men nearly had a head-on collision trying to get a video.

Whatever ballots may show, with the roads jam-packed with audience and traffic, this was a show that turned out a superhit.
