Chandigarh The 4th South Asian Universities Youth Festival (SAUFEST) kicked off at the Panjab University auditorium on Thursday. Over 175 youth artistes from 22 South-Asian universities are participating in the festival. Students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India will be showcasing their talent and respective cultures through music, theatre, fine arts, folk art, heritage, quiz, poetical symposium, debates, dances and paintings during the fest.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti emphasised on the need to cultivate creativity and curiosity among the youth. He said the globalisation session would help in the sharing of ideas and culture. “It is an honour and a privilege to provide a platform to these leaders of tomorrow, to be a contributor to the synergy of their thoughts, and to be a participant in the process of building a better tomorrow for us all,” he added.

A variety of cultural items such as folk orchestra, group song, Afghani dance, Haryanvi dance and giddha were presented by the hosts. Dr S M Kant, Director, Youth Welfare, Panjab University, said the university has also organised visits to important places in and around the city for the participants. A kite-flying session on Sunday will be the highlight of the fest and most anticipated event.
