Chandigarh The higher education department of Haryana and HARTRON (Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation) has joined hands to implement the project, ‘Empowerment of SC students in government colleges of Haryana’ in full spirit.

The training, which began in June 2008, is scheduled to conclude by January 30.

Nearly 7,000 scheduled caste students will take an exam on the completion of their six-month course in basic computer skills.

Students, who pass with at least 60 per cent marks in the exam and 40 per cent or more marks in the university exam, will be rewarded with a free computer, UPS and printer by the Higher Education department of Haryana.

A spokesman of HARTRON said nearly Rs 4.25 crore has been spent on the training of the SC students alone.

Separate funds have been earmarked by the department for providing the computers, UPS and printers. A computer lecturer was appointed as the nodal officer for supervising the training in every college.
