Azamgarh District Magistrate G S Priyadarshi has issued the orders on a report submitted by District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) M K Mishra.
The Sawitri Bai Phule Girls Education Help Scheme was announced by Chief Minister Mayawati on her birthday on January 15. Under this scheme, girls studying in Class XI and belonging to BPL families will receive Rs 15,000 and a bicycle.
When they get promoted to Class XII, they will get another Rs 10,000. In Faizabad, Assembly Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar had launched the scheme on February 4 by giving away bicycles and money to around 50 girls.
The parents have allegedly submitted false documents to avail the scheme. The authorities have received about 7,000 claims in Azamgarh. The district magistrate had asked the DIOS to verify the claims.
“Among the 2,500 claims scrutinised so far, 700 are fraudulent. The parents do not belong to BPL families and had submitted forged documents like BPL cards,” DIOS Mishra said.
