Around 600 students from 15 schools in the city participated in Ullas, a two-day school festival that commenced from Saturday and continued till Monday. The festival, which was organised by South Point School, encouraged the students to express themselves on a myriad of issues including socially important ones.

“We had conceptualised the programme because we wanted to take the pressure off the shoulders of children in this competitive world. The increasing stress and workload these kids are being subjected to is a matter of concern. This event provides a platform to display their talents,” said Madhu Kohli, director, South Point School.

The students were divided into two categories on the basis of their age. One group comprised school-going children between two to three years of age while the other had students of four to five years of age.

They took part in a variety of competitions both off-stage and on-stage that included dance, music, singing, quiz and T-shirt painting where the theme mainly consisted of socially relevant issues.

“The purpose of the programme is to take the children out of their cocoon and help them showcase their talents besides introducing them to social problems. Like through T-shirt painting these students had to actually display their opinion on socially relevant concepts,” said Kohli.

There were students from schools like Abhinav Bharati High School, AK Ghosh Memorial School, Andhra Association School, Apeejay School at Park Street, Apeejay School at Salt Lake, Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Delhi Public School, Megacity, Mahadevi Birla Girls High School, MP Birla Foundation School, Shree Bharati, Shri Shikshayatan, St Augustine’s Day School along with South Point School who took part in the festival.
