Aleya Khatoon, a resident of Shitakundu village in South 24 Parganas, reportedly refused to attend her maths tuition on Friday, as she had not finished her homework. This led to an argument between the girl and her parents, said a police officer of the Baruipur police station.
After scolding Khatoon, her father Akhtar Sheikh headed for Baruipur market, while her mother left the house along with a neighbour to run errands. But when the mother returned, she found the body of her daughter hanging from the ceiling, the officer added.
“The girl hanged herself with a scarf at her Baruipur residence. According to her parents, she was studying when they left the home. We will further investigate the case after receiving the post-mortem report,” said the officer.
School caretaker kills self
A resident of Kalachara village committed suicide at St Steven Modern School in Chanditala, Hooghly, by hanging himself from a tree inside the school compound. The deceased, Mansa Majhi (45), was the caretaker of the school.
“The body was discovered on Saturday morning by the locals, who alleged that it was a case of murder. We have sent the body for post-mortem. Medical experts have, however, confirmed that it was a case of suicide,” said Partha Sarathi Majumdar, Officer-in-Charge, Chanditala police station.
