Two journalists of a TV news channel were caught by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Saturday while they were reportedly shooting ‘lapses’ in the city airport’s security.

According to the CISF officials, the reporters were caught snooping around the boundary walls of the Mumbai airport and recording footage of the building on their cameras from a hut right opposite it. They were caught at the Nagdevi slum area, which falls in Kalina in Santa Cruz (East) that borders the airport towards the southwest side.

The two were then handed over to officials of the Vakola police station. According to the police, the duo belonged to NewsX TV channel.

“The reporters were hiding behind the huts and recording pictures of the airport and were therefore caught by the CISF staff in that area,” said a police official from Vakola police station. Senior Police Inspector of the police station Sanjay Nekalikar confirmed the incident and said action against the two would be taken after a detailed enquiry.

Senior Commandant of the CISF, Sanjay Prakash, also confirmed the incident and said that it’s a punishable offence under the Aircraft Act (1934) and can draw imprisonment up to three months. However, an official from the police station said: “What works in their favour is the fact that they were outside the airport and not inside.”

When contacted, a NewsX spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
