Chandigarh A 52-year-old resident of Sector 46 died under mysterious circumstances late on Tuesday evening. Ashok Karwal worked as a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in the Bhakra Beas Management Board. His body was recovered from near Sector 46 green belt.

The victim is said to be involved in a property dispute with his father.

While the exact cause of his death will be ascertained after a post-mortem, police said Karwal’s family has blamed his father Sadhu Singh Karwal and brothers Rajinder and Ashwani for the death.

Ashok’s daughter Poonam said the three were harassing her father over the possession of a room in their part of the house for over three months.

Recently, Poonam said, Sadhu Singh had gone to Ashok’s office and openly accused him of harassment. On Tuesday, Ashok told his colleagues it was his last day in office, Poonam added.

She added that Ashok went out without saying a word on Tuesday evening, leaving his mobile phone and wallet behind. When he did not return for long, his son Virat sought police help to trace him.

The officers informed him that they had recovered a body from near petrol station in the Sector 46 green belt and sent it to the Sector-32 Government Medical College and Hospital. Virat later identified the body as that of his father.

Sadhu Singh said he had already disowned Ashok for his unruly behaviour. He added that Ashok had forcibly taken possession of a room of the house. The matter was reported to the police, he said.

“We are investigating the matter and are awaiting the post-mortem report,” said DSP South Jaswant Singh Khaira.
