Chandigarh, February 24 The members of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) Residents Federation, Sector 45C, today held a meeting to prepare a strategy in response to the recent demolition notices served to them by the CHB.

In the meeting, members have decided to appeal to the UT Administrator requesting him to stop the action. They said that in most of the cases, residents only tried to beautify the surrounding area by planting grass or by paving the area. They said around 80 per cent of the encroachment falls under this category.

They further stated that in 10 per cent cases, residents have made additional construction within their units, which otherwise was meant to be kept open for the proper supply of light and air.

In a statement, chairman of the federation Nirmal Datt, president A S Oberoi and general secretary B S Chadha stated that instead of demolishing such structures the CHB should guide the residents to make such structures structurally sound. “These structures are the outcome of the pressing needs of growing families,” they said.

Councillors Jatinder Bhatia, Vijay Singh Rana, J S Kang, BJP leader Satya Pal Jain and BJP state president Kamla Sharma attended the meeting.
