Mumbai, March 8 A sub-divisional magistrate court in Goa today ordered a second autopsy in the case of Scarlett Keeling, the 15-year-old whose naked body was found at Anjuna beach on February18.

The case still stands as “death due to drowning” in the Goa police records.

Five bruises and abrasions, including marks in her kneecaps, left arm and neck and above her eyes were recorded in the earlier autopsy report. It also recorded sand particles in her mouth and nose right down to the trachea.

A three-hour inquest followed the magistrate’s order. Five witnesses and Scarlett’s mother Fiona MacKeown were present when it was done, according to their advocate Vikram Varma. The process of autopsy is now scheduled for tomorrow as directed by the court, he added.

“I have myself recorded around 50 bruises with nail marks on her back and serious bruises of assault all over her body. It looks as she was beaten very badly before she was killed. The earlier post-mortem has recorded only five specific bruise marks,” Varma said.

Scarlett Keeling’s body was found off Anjuna in the early hours of February 18 by the villagers who then informed the police. Keeling’s mother claims she was a good swimmer and surfer.

The 15-year-old body was found with the bra clinging to the neck and without her underpants and shorts removed.
