It’s the time to pull out that jacket and put on some chic

Winter fashion is a big fashion mover internationally, and a tailored jacket is the ultimate in looking chic. Besides, a light wool cover does wonderfully in these cold evenings.

Fashion runways around the world are throwing around their military might, with officer uniformed coats and Russian military inspired jackets teamed with shoulder epaulettes and brass buttons. “The silhouettes get inspired by the outdoors, bringing back the military trend that focuses on unstructured jackets with pocket detailing. The best option would be to opt for all-weather, non-bulky and lightweight coats,” says designer Raghuvendra Rathore. “Instead of being heavily padded and fused it should be half lined with minimum or no padding, almost cut like an outer shirt,” he states. For a soft military look, opt for tunic coats.

Looks like Kate Moss, Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham are popularising the biker jacket this season teaming it with printed tees and biker caps. Fabrics such as cotton, cotton blends or light suiting (non-wool) work well if you don’t want leather. Designer Raakesh Agarwval insists, “This season, jackets are very much inspired by safari with lots of pockets, vents, buttons and zippers but a very fitted or almost, say, like a Bodycon jacket.” For better results, style it with the shortest mini skirt or even with a pair of classy jodhpurs. “Jackets need not be paired with trousers alone. Wear them with skirts, harem pants or simply a dress to add that extra zing,” seconds designer Arshiya Fakih Eappen.

From single-buttoned to wraparounds, bomber jackets and double breasted khaki coats, jackets could dress you up instantly. The most classic of fashion staples, the versatile trench coat too is a good buy.Whether it’s a night out with friends or a lunch with business associates, a jacket is the perfect add-on. For men, it is the classic cuts and clean lines in shades of grey, brown and black. For those with a penchant for bright colour, choose from whites, ivories, peaches, raspberry pinks and citrus orange shades. Your jacket could define your mood this season.
