Chandigarh With construction waste lying unattended at various places and roads in a pathetic condition, Sector 31 has a sorry saga to narrate even though it houses families of the Air Force personnel.

Ashok Sahni, a shopkeeper says, “While we don’t have problems pertaining to water and electricity, the roads here are very bad. They haven’t been carpeted for several years now.”

The roads in the sector can give nightmares to any driver. Several potholes dot the roads here and some strips are not even metalled.

Another resident says, “It has been several months since the road outside my house was dug. The condition of the road is pathetic since.”

Construction sites in pockets of the sector also deposit a lot of waste on the roadsides, further adding to the problem.

The drainage system in the sector also leaves a lot to be desired as some of the lanes in the residential areas are perennially waterlogged.

“Water often accumulates in the lanes. The residents are the ones suffering. Nothing is being done about the problem,” said a resident.

Mithlesh Gupta, a businessman, highlights another problem in the sector.

“The parking arrangements are also very chaotic,” says Gupta.

He adds, “The Administration had promised to set up a community centre in the sector. It has been more than five years but nothing has been done. Also, there are too many open spaces in the area that facilitate nefarious activities of anti-social elements.”

Bad roads in Sector 31 C by Wg Cdr V Deivaraj on 09 Jun 2009

I am also an affected party due to bad roads. Inspite of 'marking for making of roads' in the recent past, the job has not commenced resulting in hardship to all residents, primarily personnel belonging to Indian Air Force. I have even registered complaints through internet with Administration; but in vain.
