Mohali AMID strong protest by hundreds of allottees, whose land was acquired in 2001 to develop Sectors 76-80 in Mohali, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) on Tuesday allotted 683 plots measuring 125 square yards and 150 square yards each in Sectors 77, 78, 79 and 80.

The third draw of lots, which started today, will continue on Wednesday when 378 more plots will be allotted in the dimensions of 250, 300, 400 and 1,000 square yards, GMADA Estate Officer (EO) Subhash Rana told Newsline.

At around 11 am when the draw was about to begin, GMADA officials declared that the names of those candidates, which were earlier slated to be included in today’s draw, were withheld as the exact calculations about their claims and allotments could not be finalised.

The GMADA authorities claimed that the calculations will be finalised shortly and the next draw of lots will be held soon to accommodate these candidates.

Irked, the candidates held a massive demonstration and claimed that the step was another “conspiracy” to delay the allotment of plots to them.

Sensing trouble, heavy police force, led by DSP (City-II) Swarndeep Singh, rushed to the spot and struggled to pacify the frayed tempers.

In the process, the draw proceedings were delayed for three hours and resumed at 2 pm.

GMADA EO said that of the total 338 plots of 125 square yards each available, 326 were allotted while of the total 357 letter of intent (LOI) holders, 256 were allotted available plots of 150 square yards each.

On Wednesday, he said, 108 plots of 250 square yards each, 173 of 300 square yards each, 85 of 400 square yards each and 8 of 1,000 square yards each will be allotted while the remaining LOI holders and oustees will be covered in the fourth draw, the date of which will be fixed shortly.

During the past two draw of lots in 2007 and 2008, GMADA had allotted 2,523 of the total 3,931 plots carved out in the urban estate.
