Pradip Mitra, director of IGGMER Institute of Post Graduate Medicine and Research, DC (south) Supratim Sarkar and Hospital Superintendent Debasiash Chakrabory held a meeting with representatives of junior doctors in the morning.
“We had three demands: all medical wards should have policemen, the role of the police in Saturday’s incident should be investigated and charges of attempt to murder be brought against the patient’s party, “ said Tanmoy Das, a doctor, while referring to the harassment meted out to four doctors on Saturday afternoon by relatives of a patient.
As most of our demands were met, all doctors joined duty on Monday evening, added Das.
The hospital administration agreed to provide police protection in five vulnerable wards — two emergency wards, casualty ward, gynaecology ward and the main building, it is learnt.
The administration has also decided to strengthen the security apparatus at the hospital. Three cards — white, red and green — will be issued to restrict the number of patients’ relatives on campus. Those with red cards will be allowed to stay with the patient, those with the white can visit during visiting hours while the green card holders will be allowed to be on the hospital campus.
During the strike, hundreds of patients were turned away from the hospital and several others who were admitted were reportedly denied treatment.
