Kolkata To ensure that Holi does not lose its colours, and to keep miscreants at bay, elaborate security arrangements have been made by the Kolkata police. This Holi, before splashing colour on someone’s face, think twice because if your target refuses to go with your spirit, you may end up behind the bars.

Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Department of Kolkata police, Jawed Shamim, said: “Security in the city and its fringes has been beefed up and police personnel will be posted in almost all parts of the metropolis.”

He added that a total force of more than 5,000 personnel, including senior officials, will be on duty for two days to ensure a safe Holi for the residents.

Kolkata will be under strict vigilance so that people don't go overboard and end up harassing fellow citizens.

There will be mobile patrol, foot patrol and police pickets across the city. This year, certain sensitive areas will also be under the police scanner.

“On March 11, there will around 288 pickets and on March 12 there will be around 200 pickets across the city,” said a senior officer.
