On Sunday evening, two girls were harassed by a group of four boys when they were returning to their hostel. The girls started shouting for help. Soon, other residents of the hostel came out and thrashed the boys. Two of them escaped, while two were caught. They were paraded in the public and taken to the Sayajigunj police station where a case was lodged against them. The two have been identified as Chinmay Barva of Monali society, Karelibaug, and Sunny Rao of Mahavirswami pol, Kothi.
“The girls were being harassed for the last eight days by a group of boys. On Sunday, they dared to enter the university. The girls took a brave decision to teach them a lesson. While the police are doing their duty, we have already deployed an additional security guard at the faculty gate,” said DP Bharambe, warden of the girls’ hostel.
Meanwhile, the police released both Chinmay and Sunny on bail today. “We are now looking for the two other boys, Jatin and Siraj, who were with them during the incident.
Apparently, one of the boys was present there by chance only; but the rest had been chasing these girls for long. We are trying to find out the whereabouts of the two,” said a police officer.
