Seeds fall at South Club

Kolkata Rajat Maheshwari justified his wild card by reaching the quarter-finals defeating sixth seed Shaikh Abdullah of Andhra 6-4, 7-5 in the Junior Tennis Super Series being played at the South Club here. The other seed to fall was eighth seed Dhruv Agarwal of Uttar Pradesh. Dhruv was beaten by Gujarat’s Anvit Bendre 6-3, 4-6, 1-6.

Local boy Shreedhar Gaggar also reached the quarter-finals beating AK Pardha Saradhi of Andhra 6-4, 6-4. In the first round, Gaggar had ousted fifth seed Sirasala Surya.

Second seed Sai Kartik Nakireddy of Andhra Pradesh, however, defeated his Tamil Nadu’s Niranjan R Ram 6-3, 6-4 to reach quarters.

In the girls’ under-16 singles, local girl wild card Aandrita Deb blew away fifth seed Akshara Iska in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals. M Saranya Shivani Varma of Andhra ousted the sixth seed Swetha Sree Hari of Tamil Nadu 6-3, 6-3.

In the boys’ under-14 singles, Punjab’s Ayush Mintri blanked seventh seed B Supreeth 6-0, 6-0.

In girls’ under-14 singles, Delhi’s Simran Kaur Sethi got the better of sixth seed Rimpledeep Kaur of Punjab 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. Sneh Devi Reddy of Maharashtra beat the seventh seed Akshara Iska 6-4, 6-1.

Results: Boys’ under-16 singles pre quarter-finals: Ronit Bisht beat Rithvik Anand 6-3, 6-1; Rajat Maheshwari beat Shaikh Abdullah 6-4, 7-5; S Karan beat Basil Khuma 6-2, 6-3; Madhurjya Dutta beat Sattwik Sinha Ray 5-7, 6-2, 6-4; Anvit Bendre beat Dhruv Agarwal 3-6, 6-4, 6-1; Pavan Surya beat Dev Fazal 6-1, 6-0; Shreedhar Gaggar beat AK Pardha Saradhi 6-4, 6-4; Sai Kartik Nakireddy beat Niranjan R Ram 6-3, 6-4.
