This was the theme of the a seminar was organized at Green Grove Public School, Mohanpur, Khanna, to mark Women’s Day. The seminar also aimed at enlightening the teachers with new innovative and interesting teaching skills.
Amrita Mangat, an educationist and the Manager of Canadian University Northern Region, spoke about how to deal with students, and to make teaching interesting and efficient. She began with how the morning assembly can be made more interactive, and used for improving the students’ expression.
Mangat asserted that meditation is a prerequisite for inculcating discipline, calmness, patience and introspection among children. She talked about many techniques to enhance the interest of students in studies, like brainstorming sessions, using interactive boards, charts, notebooks, story maps, dramatization and role playing etc.
For kindergarten, she gave some very good ideas. She suggested various activities for children ranging from making menu-cards, story maps, skits, taking them to the garden etc.
The teachers welcomed her ideas, and discussed them with enthusiasm. She also highlighted the common weakness in teachers which hampers their growth.
Enlisting the weak spots of teachers, she said that its basically a lack of self-discipline in teachers and their resistance to accept criticism, which stagnates them. She highlighted that teachers should be open to new avenues, and get out of their self-created aura of boredom and insensitivity. Mangat urged teachers to be interactive, interesting, accept criticism, discussing with each other, must have a positive attitude, and healthy competition with each other. She also urged the teachers to be confident, calm, patient and introspective.
