Seminar on advanced clinical gait analysis begins at DMCH

A two-day symposium and workshop on the ‘Advanced Clinical Gait Analysis’, organised by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, began at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at Dumra Auditorium on Monday.

The workshop was attended by the students of physiotherapy and delegates including orthopaedicians, neurologists and neurosurgeons from various institutes of the region.

During the workshop, detailed discussions on the normal and abnormal walking patterns and their respective clinical evaluation and treatment were elaborated upon along with relevant practical sessions.

The session began with lectures on the gait cycle and muscle functions, the functional foot disorders and common injuries like lower extremity pathologies. It was mentioned that abnormal gait may be caused by diseases in many different areas of the body, including vestibular disorders, central nervous system disorders, peripheral nerve and degenerative muscle diseases, arthritis foot conditions and toxic reactions (alcohol, drugs, allergens).

The guest speakers on the first day included internationally-acclaimed speaker, researcher and clincianc Naomi Green from the United Kingdom and Dr Gagan Kapoor (Physiotherapist, National Football Team, Delhi).

The workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta.

Among those present on the inaugural ceremony were vice-presidents of the DMCH Managing Society including Amrit Nagpal and Gian Chand Dhawana, Principal Dr Daljt Singh, Vice-Principal Dr Jagdeep Whig, Medical superintendents Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr BS Shah.
