Seminar on judicial process held

Pune City-based New Law Academy, in coordination with Maharashtra Law Academy, had organised a one-day National Seminar on 'Judicial Process-Contemporary Challenges' on Saturday.

The chief guest for the inaugural function was Justice Bilal Nazki, Judge, High Court of Judicature at Bombay and it was presided over by Prof Dr A Lakshminath, Chancellor, AP University of Law, Visakhapatnam, and Pro-Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University, Patna.

Dr. Rasheed Shaikh, Principal, New Law Academy, in his welcome address, said the aim of the seminar was to highlight the role of court as policy maker, participant in the power process and as an instrument of social change. The seminar also exposed the intricacies of judicial creativity and the judicial tools and techniques employed in the process. As the issue of judicial activism is now engaging the attention of legal experts and the common people, the areas of seminar includes the court's power of judicial review of laws, issues relating to Judicial Accountability and Judicial interference in the interpretation of constitution, particularly the power of Parliament to amend the Constitution. He elaborated the process of judiciary and said that the judiciary in India is not merely an adjudicator, but performs more important functions - as authoritative interpreter of the constitution.

Justice Bilal Nazki, Judge, High Court, Mumbai, Prof. Dr. A. Lakshminath, Mr. P.A. Inamdar, President, M.C.E. Society, Adv. Dr. Sureshchandra Bhosale, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Pune and Member Bar Concil of Maharashtra and Goa, Adv. Rajendra Anbhule and Prin. Dr. Rasheed Shaikh were present.

On the occasion, a book titled Judicial Services Examination 2009 authored by Adv. Dr. Sureshchandra Bhosale Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Pune and Member Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and co-authored by Adv. R. Anbule, Founder Secretary, CHRD, Pune, was also released at the auspicious hands of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Bilal Nazki.

In his address, Justice Bilal Nazki said the independence of judiciary is essential internally and externally to meet the contemporary challenges in the present era. He further said, the judgement is to be delivered considering future aspects and consequences, which is a very important task. He advised the young generation to join the judiciary to share the burden of country. In the presidential Address, Prof. D.A. Lakshminath gave various illustrations of reported judgments and elaborated the role of Judiciary and entire, judicial process. He said judgement should be given with equity and good conscience.

Mr. P.A. Inamdar felicitated the Chief Guest and in his address said that, the lawyer plays very important role in process of judiciary. He gave various options available to a lawyer in his procession and said, "we salute Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar for making constitution containing provisions for all section and every elements of society.
