Pune Mixed reactions poured in from the political circles on the interim budget presented by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on Monday. The Opposition BJP-Sena called the budget a poll gimmick with nothing for common man, while the ruling party and its allies said the budget has proved that the UPA has stuck to its commitment made to the people.

"Congress seems to be confused over defining the aam aadmi, as it has failed to live up to the expectations of any section of the society," Ujjwal Keskar, BJP spokesperson for Western Maharashtra, said.

"There are neither any real benefits for the poor nor anything for the industries," he said, adding, the benefits of loan waiver by Congress-led UPA government are yet to reach the farmers.

"The BJP has been demanding reduction in the interest rates on agriculture loans, but the UPA government has been unable to do it," Keskar said.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said the UPA government has continued to disappoint the public. "The leaders of ruling party has been making excuse of limitations of interim budget for hiding their failure. The government has been speaking about recession, but hardly done anything for the job security to employees in all sectors."

"There is no encouragement to self help group (SHG) and entreupreners," she said, adding, it seems that the ruling alliance has forgotten its slogan of development with human face.

"The present UPA government has got capable personalities like Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who have delivered the promises made to the public. The policy of progress has resulted in the increase in gross domestic product (GDP)," city NCP chief Jaideo Gaikwad said.

"There might be allegations that the interim budget has been prepared keeping an eye of the forthcoming elections," he said. "Those following the budget from last four years would realise it is the continuation of good work done in the tenure of the UPA government."

City Congress chief Abhay Chhajed said the UPA government has fulfilled the assurances made to the people.

"It was a vote-on-account so nothing much was possible. The growth rate has been maintained," he said. "The Congress government would provide sops during the presentation of the entire budget after the Lok Sabha elections."
