Shiv Sena’s city unit chief Nana Wadekar said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, “The company has a huge chunk of employees from outside the state. The management suspended six Marathi employees, under very inconsequential pretexts. If the company fails to remove outsiders and recruit the local youths, we have decided to oppose it in the typical Shiv Sena way. The company should act upon it within the next fortnight or else face the consequences,” Wadekar said.
As per the information provided by them, presently, the company has a total strength of 2797 employees. Out of this, 1307 employees have been recruited before 2006, while the rest, 1489 have been recruited in the last two years. The percentage of recruitment of outsiders in the last two years alone has been 45 per cent.
“It was never a tradition of the Shiv Sena to hold talks with those against whom we are agitating. However, this time, we decided to talk to the management first in order to bring some solution without any damage. But even after our requests, if the company management is not going to bog down, we are left with no other option but to execute the agitation in our own way,” said deputy mayor Chandrakant Mokate.
The city unit of the Shiv Sena had taken out a rally to the company premises alleging it was ignoring local youths. Around 50 Shiv Sena workers, led by Wadekar had entered the company premises seeking immediate ouster of the non-Maharashtrians and recruitment of Marathis.
The company officials, while refuting the allegations, threatened legal action against agitators. Pune Municipal Corporation’s standing committee chairman Shyam Deshpande was also present.
