Vadodara M S university senate member Narendra Rawat on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor, demanding an unbiased inquiry into the incident at the C C Mehta Auditorium, where students collapsed at a function, due to lack of oxygen.

On Tuesday, a five-member committee was formed to probe into the incident.

The committee members include various faculty members of the university, and they will submit their suggestions and improvement measures required in the Auditorium, on February 9.

Elsewhere, Rawat has demanded that the committee should have non- M S University members for transparency and an unbiased inquiry.

He also suggested that the committee should focus solely on the inquiry. "An incident like this does not need suggestions, but a concrete inquiry. With so many events organised at the same auditorium earlier, such an incident points out something deeper," said Rawat.

He has now sought an inquiry into all the earlier records of the maintenance of the auditorium in the past. "I demand a judicial inquiry into the matter," he said.

Meanwhile, a former theatre workshop assistant (lights), Ramesh Kadam, has alleged that the incident took place because of the negligence of the concerned officials. He said the in-charge technicians were supposed to monitor the temperature and other important readings at every half hour. Besides, they were supposed to maintain a chart, which is not being done at the moment, he said, adding that the incident occurrred as the maintenance of the AC plants was ignored.

ÚNBIASED' INQUIRY by Niranjan on 07 Feb 2009

WHAT INQUIRY! THE ONLY REASON THAT THE SITUATION WAS AGGREVATED WAS DUE TO PRESENCE OF 66% MORE PERSONS THAN THE CAPACITY OF THE HALL AND THE A/C WAS TURNED OFF BECAUSE OF THE DIYA ITEM! DOES IT TAKE A SCIENTIST TO UNDERSTAND SUCH SIMPLE TRUTH? WHY WASTE MONEY AFTER AN INQUIRY WHEN A SIMPLE FOLLOWING OF THE RULES OF NOT ALLOWING MORE PEOPLE THAN THE CAPACITY OF THE HALL AND NOT TURNING OFF THE A/C OR AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE PRESNT IN THE HALL. BUT OUR SMART ELDERS WILL UNDERSTAND IT ONLY IF IT IS WRITTEN IN A REPORT GENERATED BY SOME BIGWIGS AFTER SPENDING LAKHS OF RUPEES AND TALKING TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AND TAKING MONTHS OR YEARS TO CONCLUDE. BUREAUCRACY, THY NAME IS WASTE OF GOODMONEY.
