According to the Kandivli police, Ramesh Chaturdas Seth, a resident of Mahavir Nagar had been approached by the victim’s mother through a mediator around two months ago as she required Rs 3 lakh for the treatment of her daughter, who was suffering from an unspecified illness.

Seth had told the victim’s mother that he would arrange for the money through a trust and on Tuesday he told them to meet him outside the Kandivli railway station.

Senior Police Inspector Surendra Jaiswal, Kandivli police station said, “On Tuesday, Seth came in his car and met the two women outside Kandivli station. He then told the victim’s mother that only the patient can come along with him and that he would drop her back along with a cheque of Rs 3 lakh.”

Seth then reportedly took the victim to a village near Gorai and offered her a drink that was allegedly spiked. After consuming the drink, the victim started feeling drowsy. “In her statement she told us that she was taken to a bungalow in the village near Gorai and was raped by Seth. She said she tried to resist but the drug made her unconscious and that Seth had covered her mouth,” said Jaiswal.
