Gandhinagar The government has decided to set up separate boards to recruit police personnel from the constable to the sub-inspector rank.

Till now, the recruitment of policemen in this category was done by the State Subordinate Services Selection Board.

Sources in the state Home Department said on Tuesday that a separate board to recruit Lok Rakshaks (constables) will be created, empowering the Inspector General of Police in each of the seven ranges across Gujarat to oversee the recruitment process.

Besides, a board to recruit sub-inspectors in the State Reserve Police in three SRP ranges would also be set up.

The government has also decided to set up a new recruitment board to create a specialised State Intelligence Bureau (IB) cadre, where candidates with an aptitude for intelligence gathering will be recruited as "assistant intelligence officers".

The minimum educational qualification for recruitment of such candidates will be graduation in any discipline, sources said.

The government plans to recruit about 5,000 Lok Rakshaks in the next two months through the new board, with an ad hoc monthly wage of Rs 2,500.

Till now, over 10,000 Lok Rakshaks have been recruited through the State Subordinate Services Selection Board, said a senior Home Department official.
