New Delhi Hakim had procured ball bearings for bombs used

A city court on Thursday sent Delhi blast accused Mohammed Hakim to judicial custody till January 29. Arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad in connection with the blasts in Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash and Connaught Place here, Hakim had allegedly arranged for the ball bearings used in the bombs that went off on September 13 in the Capital.

Moving the remand application, the police submitted before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal that Hakim’s custody was required to collect information that could lead to the arrest of 12 other co-accused who are still absconding.

In his disclosure statement, Hakim had allegedly told the police about the role of Arif Khan, alias Junaid, Shadab Baig and Asadullah Akhtar in the planting of bombs in GK, India Gate and Karol Bagh, respectively. Sub Inspector Rajender Sehrawat said that during the investigation, the police had recovered Hakim’s cell phone and the call records clearly established his link with the Indian Mujahideen. He added that the police had also identified the shop in Lucknow from where the ball bearings were purchased.

Hakim was one of the 13 absconding co-accused in the blasts case. Arrested from Lucknow on January 2, he is a final year student in a private engineering college there. The police had also declared a cash award of Rs one lakh for his capture. The Delhi Police were granted Hakim’s transit remand by a Lucknow court on January 3.

He is also wanted by the Maharashtra Police in connection with a case under the Arms Act and the Bombay Police Act.
