Meanwhile, two accused — Sadiq Israr Ahmed Shaikh and Anwar Abdulgani Bagwan — have moved an application to retract their statements to the police. The court will also hear the application of Pune-based software engineer Mansoor Peerbhoy to turn an approver.

The accused include Mohammed Sadiq Sheikh, 31, who reportedly founded the terror outfit along with Atif who was killed in an encounter in New Delhi. The Indian Mujahideen is held responsible for the 2008 blasts in Gujarat, New Delhi and Jaipur.

The Mumbai Crime Branch had, last year, arrested five main accused, all natives of Azamgarh who had settled in Mumbai. The subsequent investigation, which lasted for over a month, could solve the mystery of e-mails sent to media houses minutes prior to the blasts at Jaipur, Ahmedabad and New Delhi. The police could also crack the routes of cars being used for the bomb blasts.

The Crime Branch had later traced four stolen cars used in the blasts at Ahmedabad and Surat to a former member of the Fazl-Ur-Rehman gang, Afzal Mutalib Usmani, 32. The arrests that followed included those of Mohammed Sadiq Sheikh, 31, Mohammed Arif Sheikh, 38, Mohammed Zakhir Shaikh, 28, and Mohammed Ansar Shaikh, 31, and all of them were found to be associated with SIMI earlier.

The police are also expected to produce before the court explosives seized from Sewree and Kurla. These include 10 kg of gelatin/ammonium nitrate, 15 detonators, eight kg of ball bearings, four live electric circuits, one sub-machine carbine, two .38 revolvers, 30 live cartridges of 9 mm carbine and eight live cartridges for .38 revolvers.
