Set Alight and glamour on view this Sunday

Mumbai Set Alight, the best horse in the country at present, will be again on view at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Sunday, March 1, when she takes part in the first and most important race of her career, the Gitanjali Indian 1000 Guineas, the inaugural classic of the Mumbai Season 2009.

The Pesi Shroff trained filly will face good opposition this time with Icebreaker, the winner of the Bangalore Winter Derby, Attractress from Hyderabad, who went down by a whisker to Reconnect in the Golconda Derby and Originality from Bangalore, also in fray. The Gitanjali Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr1) boasts of a record stake money of Rs. 36.37 lakhs, of which about Rs 22 lakhs will be the stakes for the winner. Vijay Mallya, the owner of the Set Alight will be present to witness the race.

Besides India’s best filly in action, the Sunday Race card will be an ‘All Trophy’ card. BJETS Maharaja Jiwajirao Trophy (Gr3) and the Tirol Million will be the other major attraction of the day.

To hype the leisure angle, Gitanjali will showcase a fashion review in the paddock and a fashion show by Shane and Peacock and other entertainment acts, post races. A Bollywood star is expected. There will be sushi and beer for members. For the public to win in a contest, there will be a top prize of a diamond watch from Gitanjali. Casual wear permitted, keeping in mind the weather.
