Rodrigues emphasised the need for formulating a comprehensive concept plan for rainwater harvesting and regulating groundwater usage through latest technologies so that it can be used in the tertiary water plan and for stabilising the groundwater table.
He also directed UT officials to evolve a responsive mechanism to regularly clean up rivulets and construct check dams as required, to convert them into water bodies. Rodrigues also asked the department to clean up and develop the area in Sector 25 (Rally Point) with a proper drainage system and other basic facilities for people coming to the city to air their problems and grievances.
He also asked for re-moulding of the exhibition grounds with modular structures and stalls in a planned manner.
The presentation by the department suggested several short and long-term measures, including regular cleaning of the natural drainage systems, removal of stone pitching, maintaining bed level at road bridges, removal of trees on side slopes of natural drains, application of de-silting machinery with latest technology, remodelling of natural drainage system.
GMCH-32 gets a new block
UT Administrator S F Rodrigues inaugurated Block-D of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, on Wednesday. Completed at a cost of Rs 21 crore, this five-storey building has been equipped with complete healthcare infrastructure and will house the departments of radiology, blood bank, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiotherapy, dentistry, gynaecology, general medicine, anaesthesiology, psychiatry department and others. Accompanied by Home Secretary Ram Niwas, Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Director of GMCH Raj Bahadur, General Rodrigues went round the complex and checked the facilities in every service block. He asked the Home Secretary to institutionalise a monitoring system of city blood banks to ensure its proper functioning. He also discussed about the problems being faced by the hospital and assured to take up the issues with the Health Ministry, Government of India, for their speedy expedition.
