Kolkata A team of seven West Bengal-based trekkers and two sherpas have been rescued near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, state secretariat officials said on Friday.

Early today, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said five of the trekkers have been rescued and were being brought back. Later, state government officials announced that the entire team has been rescued.

Goutam Biswas, Goutam Ghosh, Subrata Ghosh, Sachin Ghosh, Mrinal Kanti Ghosh, Sujit Manna and Ramchandra (caretaker) of Howrah had left for Kedarnath on May 28.

While returning from Maoli pass, 15 km from Kedarnath, they came under a blizzard and they lost all contacts. Ramchandra somehow managed to return to a safe place and contacted the Indo-Tibetan Border police which in turn informed the Uttarakhand administration.

“We were in contact with them till Wednesday morning, but thereafter they were out of touch and we feared something happened,” said Goutam Ghosh’s wife Sangita.
