Jagraon Baljinder Kaur, step mother of seven-year-old Joshinder Singh Josh has been found guilty of killing him for property.

Notable here is that Josh, a student of class I, son of Satwinder Singh and Baljinder Kaur, both residents of Mehrana Village, died on October 29. Josh was the only son of Satwinder Singh who was married to Baljinder Kaur for second time.

SSP Luhdiana Rural H S Chahal informs, “The day Josh died we had booked four people on the day of murder which included Josh’s father, mother, his grandfather Purshotam Singh and grandmother Narinder Kaur. However after investigations, we found that it was Baljinder Kaur, the step mother, who had killed Josh for property.”

Elaborating, Chahal added, “Satwinder Singh was married to one Harjinder Kaur in 2001. Josh was their child. Some three years ago, Harjinder Kaur died due to some burn injuries under mysterious circumstances. After some time, he married Baljinder Kaur.”

The SSP said, “The couple however could not have a child of their own even after eleven months of marriage. Due to this, Baljinder Kaur was under depression. On October 29, she tried to strangulate Josh while he was watching television. At that time she and Josh were alone at home. Her first attempt failed for Josh began shouting. But Baljinder, tried again, as she feared that he might tell other members of the family about the incident.”

After killing Josh, Baljinder Kaur ran out of the house screaming that Josh had fallen off the bed and had died. But the post-mortem report helped in the unravelling the mystery and police zeroed in on Baljinder Kaur.
