Varinder Sachdeva of Shakti said, “We wanted to start a revolutionary trend of celebrating Lohri of girls. The people should wake up and change the sick mentality.”
A bonfire was lit and eatables distributed. Gynecologist Dr Iqbal Ahuja and other political bigwigs honoured the mothers with mementos having the punch line Tu shakti tu sirjandhar hai, Tu kamjor nahin tu sabna da aaddhar hai.
Students from Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School enthralled the audience with their dance Guddiyan guddiyan, asin vich aasmani uddiyan. Famous theatre artists and director Nirman Rishi entertained the audience by singing Punjabi boliyan.
MLA Harish Bedi and Civil Surgeon Dr S P Sharma were the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Dr Sharma appreciated Gurumaa’s initiative to nail the menace of female foeticide. He said celebration of this kind will infuse a new thinking among people and break the old tradition of only celebrating the lohri of boys and not girls. Harish Bedi also lauded the efforts of Shakti. He said, “The work which government could not do, had been done by the common man.”
V K Khullar and Varinder Sachdeva of Shakti congratulated the mothers of the little angels.
