Sheila inaugurates 4 slip roads at Mukarba Chowk

New Delhi, March 3 Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday inaugurated four slip roads of the upcoming grade separator at Mukarba Chowk on GT Karnal Road-Outer Ring Road intersection. She was apprised by the Public Works Department officials that work is going as per schedule. The project is to be completed by November this year.

After diverting the traffic to these slip roads, work will begin on the main flyover on Outer Ring Road and some parts of the four cloverleaves. Mukarba Chowk is one of the busiest junctions and is the entry gate for north corridor to the Capital. It has traffic from NH-1, Road No.26, Road No.50 and Mall Road Extension.

At present Mukarba Chowk intersection is catering to heavy traffic from Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Narela. The peak hour traffic at the intersection is 17,500 passenger car unit (PSU) per hour. Total traffic per day at this junction is 2.36 lakh vehicles. Total cost of the project is Rs 195.22 crore which had earlier been approved by the Delhi government.

Self-sufficient programme for slums
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that her government will impart employment-oriented training to residents of slum and JJ clusters to make them self-sufficient apart from providing them all basic civic amenities. She was speaking at a function organised to inaugurate the Livelihood Programme at Savda-Ghevra. Around 2,000 youth will be imparted employment-oriented training in 46 different trades under first phase of the programme.
