New Delhi Sheila Dikshit is planning to restrict the flow of information and movement of journalists inside the Delhi Secretariat. Citing security concerns as one of the reasons behind the move, the government claims the constant flow of visitors and journalists doesn’t allow officials to concentrate on their work.

“The general access of visitors and journalists needs to be made time-specific; they will be provided access only after 3 pm, even if they are accreditated journalists,” the proposal states. In a letter sent out to all senior officials in the Secretariat, P K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the CM, has sought their opinion on the issue.

Following recent orders, Tripathi has become one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the Delhi government, handling all important charges, including tourism.

The proposal has not yet been sanctioned.

Under this proposal, in case a journalist has an appointment before 3 pm, then he or she will be asked to get a written requisition from the office of the minister or senior officer, which will be passed on to the pass counter.

Dikshit had earlier expressed displeasure over journalists camping in ministers’ offices. She

had asked her ministers during her first Cabinet meeting to ensure journalists don’t get easy access to their offices.
