Ludhiana, January 8 A Local court today granted police remand to the two main accused in the Shingaar Cinema blast case till January 11, and two others to judicial remand till January 22.

The new remand comes after the expiry of the existing police remand, which had been awarded under the RDX case. Gurpreet Singh alias Khalsa and Sandeep Singh alias Harry have been sent to police remand, while Ravinder Singh alias Rinku and Palwinder Singh were sent to judicial remand.

All the four including Gurpreet alias Khalsa, Palwinder Singh , Sandeep Singh alias Harry, Ravinder Alias Rinku were produced in different courts by police parties. The remand today comes against the case registered on October 14 in connection with the Shingaar Cinema blast, which is registered in Division 6. The blast had left six dead and 37 injured.

When asked about the remand, SSP R K Jaiswal said, “We have sought Gurpreet Singh’s remand in the Shingaar Cinema blast case. Earlier, he was being questioned in the RDX case. There are some things that we need to cross-check. These are the facts and information that we have been able to get from Gurpreet Singh during the course of interrogation.”

Gurpreet Singh had slipped from the hands of the police on September 29 , 2007, when his car was being searched by a team of Ludhiana police.

Police was able to recover 3 kgs high-quality RDX from the car. A part of the RDX smuggled in by Gurpreet was later used in the Shingaar blast. Gurpreet had masterminded the blast.

Meanwhile, Dakha police yesterday arrested Sarabjit Singh, a Simlapuri resident, in connection with the RDX haul on September 29. SHO Dakha Balbir Singh said they had received information that Sarabjit was in touch with Gurpreet for some time, and had even attended the meetings organized by him.

“Sarabjit is an SGPC employee. He used to arrange rooms for Gupreet and his friends in gurdwaras,” added the SHO. A local court has sent Sarabjit to police remand till January 9. The police has recovered one country made made from Sarabjit Singh.
