Shiv Shakti, Vishwashanti move into last eight

Strong contenders Shivshakti entered the last eight stage in the women’s section of the Gajanan Kreeda Mandal State Level Kabaddi Tournament being played at the Dubhashi Maidan in Vile Parle (E).

Shivshakti won both their league matches against Nav Maharashtra and Railway Police by big margins.

Suvarna Bartakke, Gauri Wadekar and Reema Jadhav helped their team to a 21-11 win over Nav Maharashtra.

In the other match the heroics of Tejaswini Shinde, who got out four rivals in a raid helped Shivshakti decimate Railway Police 35-12.

Suvarna Yug (Pune) and Vishwashanti also moved into the knockout stage.

Jayshree Suvarna and Swapnali Mhaskar got their act right against Rajmata Jijau to give Vishwashanti a 19-12 victory.

Suvarna Yug beat Duttaseva 22-7 quite easily but had to toil against Amar Hind Mandal for a 23-21 win.

Deepika Joseph and Mayuri Kamble proved to be the mainstays for Suvarna Yug while Akshaya Goswami and Nikita Nemane fought a losing battle for Amar Hind Mandal.

In the men’s section Central Railway defeated Hinduja Hospital 22-21 after being deadlocked 8-8 at the break.

For the railmen, Pankaj Chavan, Sagar Parab and Paresh Chavan excelled both in defence and attack. Motiram Patil, Vaibhav Shinde did the attacking for Hinduja to no avail.

Heavy weights Bharat Petroleum swamped Om Creations 35-8 while Railway Police (Ghatkopar) defeated Hinduja Hospital 39-11.
