Pune, March 2 Keeping up with the tradition of exploring new horizons coupled with a true spirit of adventurism, a team of officers, JCOs and men of the Shivneri Brigade led by Captain Shyam Charan Hembram trekked along the path once chosen by the great Maratha warrior, Chhattrapati Shivaji.

A true infantryman and perhaps the greatest warrior of guerilla tactics, Chhattrapati Shivaji used the inaccessible undulations of the Sahyadris to beat the mighty Mughals. As a tribute to this great Maratha warrior and to pay homage on the occasion of Shivaji Jayanti, the Shivneri Brigade in its own manner undertook a Maratha empire fort-to-fort trekking expedition from February 13 to 26.

The journey, which began on February 13 from Shivneri to Raigad, conquered the majestic and rugged terrain of the Sahyadri range and the Konkan plateau. Each fort visited and ridge captured by the warriors gave an insight into the greatness, courage and the military genius of the Great Maratha leader.

In the true Army tradition, during the course of the journey, the team interacted with the local population, to get to know them more closely.

On the last day of the trekking, the team conquered the formidable Raigad fort, the epitome of Maratha empire. The team trekked 254 kms and lived the history of 22 forts.
